NBSC ICS STUDENTS NAMED PROVINCIAL AWARDEES IN 2025 YOUNG FARMERS CHALLENGE
The Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office X (DA-RFO X) has recognized a team from Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) as Provincial Level Awardees of the 2025 Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Program.
The awardees, Alieza P. Balles and James B. Laag, are fourth-year students taking up Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) under NBSC’s Institute for Computer Studies (ICS). Their project, titled “Agri-Alalay: Centralized Marketing and Supply Chain Platform for Farmers,” was developed under the mentorship of Ms. Marchilyn A. Abunda, an ICS faculty member, with valuable guidance and support from Gemma G. Cania, Municipal Agriculturist of the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), and Baby Jean G. Bayo, Young Farmers Focal Person.
The team formally presented their proposal on December 10, 2025, at Harbor Lights Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, where it was evaluated and selected for its strong potential to contribute to the local agribusiness sector.
According to the official communication from Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan dated December 11, 2025, the award comes with a financial grant. This funding is allocated specifically for the implementation of the project, which aims to utilize technology to streamline marketing and supply chain systems for local farmers.
This recognition highlights NBSC’s continued commitment to producing graduates who apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges. By integrating technological expertise with agricultural needs, the institution continues to foster a learning environment where student-led initiatives – backed by strong faculty support – contribute directly to community development and industry advancement.
